Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly integrated into the criminal justice system, transforming how legal professionals manage cases, analyse information, and support clients. In my role as a Court Support Officer, I assist clients—particularly First Nations clients—through legal processes that can often feel complex and overwhelming. While technology has improved efficiency and accessibility, it has also introduced significant ethical concerns.
This website explores the ethical dilemma of whether criminal justice professionals should rely on AI in decision-making when it may compromise fairness, confidentiality, and professional judgement. This issue can be understood as a wicked problem, as it is complex, involves multiple stakeholders, and has no single clear solution. Instead, responses to this issue result in better or worse outcomes rather than a definitive resolution.
This website is designed to guide legal professionals in understanding and responding to ethical challenges associated with AI.
